How do you link My Aged Care to myGov?
Updated 24 August 2026
Yes. My Aged Care links to myGov, and you make the link from inside myGov by signing in, adding My Aged Care as a service, and following the prompts. My Aged Care sets out three steps to connect your Online Account, as published on its access page and checked on 23 August 2026. You confirm what kind of account you have, provide identification so My Aged Care can find your account, and confirm the name and contact details held on your My Aged Care registration. You must already be registered with My Aged Care before the Online Account can be set up, and the myGov link is made only once. After the three steps, you are taken to your My Aged Care Online Account, and a My Aged Care service tile appears on your myGov homepage alongside your other linked services. The steps ask for an identification number and contact details, not a myGov linking code.

Linking My Aged Care to myGov requires four things: registration with My Aged Care, a myGov account, an identification number, and your registered name and contact details.
- Registration with My Aged Care. My Aged Care requires you to be registered before you can set up your Online Account. The connection works by finding a record that already exists, so there is nothing for myGov to attach to until registration is done. Registration also sits ahead of access to government-subsidised aged care in Australia.
- A myGov account. myGov holds the sign-in that carries the link, so the myGov account has to exist first. If you do not have one, My Aged Care tells you to create one, and it directs anyone having trouble to the myGov helpdesk on 13 23 07 (My Aged Care, checked 23 August 2026).
- An identification number. My Aged Care recommends the Aged Care ID or a Medicare number, and lists a Veteran card number or a Centrelink customer reference number as further options. An Aged Care ID is the letters AC plus 8 digits (My Aged Care, checked 23 August 2026), and it appears under your name inside the Online Account. My Aged Care recommends you have that number available for every interaction with it.
- Your registered name and contact details. The connection needs the name and contact details as they sit on your My Aged Care registration.
The three steps to connect your Online Account to myGov
My Aged Care's three connection steps ask for an account kind, an identification number and your registered contact details, in that order. My Aged Care publishes what each step requires on its access your online account page.
- Confirm what kind of account you have. My Aged Care asks whether you are seeking aged care, already receiving aged care, or acting as a supporter for someone in that position. Your answer tells My Aged Care which kind of record the account belongs to, and registered supporters continue on a personal record of their own.
- Provide identification so My Aged Care can find your account. You enter one of the identification numbers listed above. My Aged Care uses that number to locate the record it will connect to your myGov sign-in.
- Confirm your contact details. You enter your name and contact details. My Aged Care checks them against the record that the identification number located at step two.
How do you open your My Aged Care Online Account after the first link?
You open your My Aged Care Online Account by signing in to myGov and selecting the My Aged Care service tile, which directs you to the Online Account. The three connection steps run once, so every later visit is a myGov sign-in and a tile selection. Your My Aged Care Online Account holds your personal aged care record, so it is where you look up your Aged Care ID before a call to My Aged Care.
Does linking My Aged Care to myGov need a linking code?
No. My Aged Care's three connection steps request an identification number and your contact details, and no linking code appears anywhere in that sequence. Medicare and Centrelink each use a linking code of their own. A Medicare linking code is a single-use code that Services Australia gives you for linking Medicare to a myGov account, and a Centrelink linking code is a separate single-use code for linking Centrelink.
How do you get a myGov linking code?
Services Australia issues myGov linking codes over the phone and at a service centre. Services Australia says most people supply enough detail online for it to authenticate them and find their Medicare record (Services Australia, page last updated 14 January 2026). Some people cannot complete that check online and have to call Services Australia or visit in person. The linking code belongs to that second path, and Services Australia issues it once it has confirmed by phone that the record is yours.
The phone route is the Services Australia Online Services Support Hotline for myGov on 132 307. On that line, option 2 is the menu choice for a myGov linking code, and option 1 is for general myGov enquiries (Services Australia, page last updated 23 July 2026). The in-person route is a Services Australia service centre, which issues the same single-use codes for Medicare and for Centrelink.
What you need to link Medicare or Centrelink with a linking code
Linking Medicare with a code requires two things: your Medicare card number carrying its Individual Reference Number, and the code itself. The Individual Reference Number sits next to your name on the Medicare card, and all 11 digits are entered without spaces (Services Australia, page last updated 14 January 2026).
Linking Centrelink to your myGov account with a linking code requires the linking code and your Customer Reference Number. Your Customer Reference Number appears on letters Centrelink has sent you, or on a concession card where you hold one. Services Australia asks you to have that information ready before you begin the link.
What to do when your myGov name does not match the name Medicare or Centrelink holds
Correcting a name mismatch means fixing whichever record carries the wrong name, because myGov must hold the same name as the service you are linking, for Medicare and for Centrelink. When your myGov details differ from the name or date of birth held on your Medicare record, the link fails with the RFM128 error (Services Australia, page last updated 14 January 2026).
When your myGov details are right and the Medicare record is wrong, you update the name and date of birth held by Medicare. Services Australia takes that correction by phone on the Medicare program line, for your security, and asks for proof of the name or date of birth. A name corrected with Medicare takes up to 24 hours to reach myGov (Services Australia, page last updated 3 October 2025), and some corrections may not register until overnight, so a retry in the same hour can still fail on details you have already put right.
My Aged Care runs its own detail check at step three of the connection, where you confirm the name and contact details your registration holds.
Linking My Aged Care to myGov when you support someone else
A registered supporter links My Aged Care to myGov through a personal record of their own. My Aged Care creates that record when you become someone's registered supporter, and you set up your Online Account against it through myGov using the same three steps. Supporting someone who is looking for or receiving aged care is one of the account kinds step one asks about, so that is where you record that the account belongs to a supporter.
Seeing the older person's information takes more than the link. Only some registered supporters may open the record of the person they support. My Aged Care must have added you as a registered supporter, and either the older person consents to you seeing their information or you are their active appointed decision-maker. Even with that in place, you sign in to your own Online Account first and reach the older person's information from there.
If you are not registered with My Aged Care yet
People who are not yet registered with My Aged Care register by applying for an assessment. The online application takes 10 to 15 minutes to complete (My Aged Care, checked 23 August 2026). My Aged Care also takes the application over the phone, discusses what you need, and completes it with you during the call. An assessment is what establishes your eligibility for government-subsidised aged care, and My Aged Care requires it before those services can be accessed.
The Elderberry directory lists 2,590 aged care homes run by 708 providers across Australia, pulled in August 2026.
Common questions
What number do I call to get a linking code for myGov?
Call the Services Australia Online Services Support Hotline for myGov on 132 307 and choose option 2 for a myGov linking code. The hotline operates Monday to Friday 7 am to 10 pm and Sunday to Saturday 10 am to 5 pm, on the Services Australia page last updated 23 July 2026. My Aged Care lists the myGov helpdesk on 13 23 07 for people having trouble creating a myGov account (My Aged Care, checked 23 August 2026), which is the same number as 132 307 written in a different grouping.
How do you get a linking code without calling?
Services Australia issues linking codes at a service centre in person, for Medicare and for Centrelink. The code also drops out of the process when the online identity check succeeds.
How do I get a linking code for Medicare and myGov?
Services Australia gives you a Medicare linking code once it has confirmed that the Medicare record is yours. If you cannot answer enough identity questions online, Services Australia cannot be sure the record belongs to you, so you call and answer a different set of questions. You then enter the linking code in myGov with your Medicare card number to finish the Medicare link.
